The Costa de la Luz stretches stretches along Spain's West Atlantic coast from Tarifa to Cadiz - and as far as Huelva, (according to the tourist sites).

El Sueño is located just under half-way between the large coastal surfing town of Tarifa to the South and the ancient seafaring city of Cadiz to the North - tucked into a protected valley by the sea between the hilltop 'white village' of Vejer del a Frontera and our local coastal fishing town of Barbate.

Therefore, our local weather & temperatures tend to fall somewhere between these two reference points - milder than Cadiz in Summer, while warmer and more sheltered from than Tarifa in the Winter.

Costa de la Luz - weather
Costa de la Luz is Spain's most southwesterly coast in the province of Andalucia, and translated from Spanish means ‘Coast of Light’ due to the bright sunshine the area is bathed in. The summer months are hot but not as intense as the Mediterranean can be, as gentle Atlantic breezes drift in to take the edge off the heat - with very little if any humidity.  Daytime temperatures during the summer months range from the mid 20s in May to the 30s in the hottest weeks of mid July to late August, while both June and September are in the high 20s. The temperatures in the evening will dip to around 15C to 20C, so a summer Costa de la Luz holiday will always be warm.

Costa de la Luz weather - perfect beach and water sports
Sun worshipers will find the summer months in Costa de la Luz ideal for sunbathing and swimming in the warm waters. With over 300km of sunny coast from Tarifa to Ayamonte near the Portuguese border there is no shortage of hot, sandy beaches fringed by little restaurants and chiringuitos to suit everyone from familes to couples and groups of friends.  July and August in Costa de la Luz provide around 12 hours of sunshine per day and the clear, warm waters are perfect for swimming, snorkelling or diving. The temperatures in April are still in the mid 20s, which is ideal for enjoying some sunshine and alfresco dining during the Easter holidays.

Costa de la Luz weather - relaxing winter sun from October to May
Winters in Costa de la Luz are enjoyably mild and sunny, with daily temperatures of around 16-20'C and nights rarely dipping below 10'C - but it can go lower on occasion on clear nights.  It is the perfect time of year to explore the area without the crowds, including daytrips inland to Seville or Jerez without the excessive Summer heat - with cycling, walking, riding and simply relaxing outside always popular pastimes.  Swimming pools and the sea will also feel warmer in the Autumn than in the Spring, so these can be enjoyed well into early November - while water sports such as sailing, surfing and kitesurfing are particularly popular during the Winter months in this region.

While the long hot Summers are almost completely dry, the main rainfall is between late October to mid May - which helps keep the area lush and green throughout the year.  Spring starts in January and runs right through to mid May, with heady almond and citrus blossoms, followed by fields of beautiful wildflowers - the so-called 'painted fields' of Europe.  The consistently warm winter climate and seven hours of sunshine per day are key factors that draw the Spanish themselves to holiday year-round in Costa de la Luz.  Combine the mild climate and the quieter beaches during the low season and you have the perfect makings for a relaxing winter sunshine holiday break.
